Running QlikSense on high resolution screens

Recently I started to work with Qlik Sense, the first application out of Qlik’s ambitious Next project. The installation on my ultrabook with Windows 8.1 succeeded without any issues. But after opening it for the first time, I was a little bit shocked. The whole application was so  small. I barely could recognize anything. First I thought that my standard QHD+ screen resolution of 3200×1800 px was the problem, so I changed it to 1600×900. But nothing changed, it still was tiny as hell.

So I checked the Qlik Community for help, thinking that others must have had the same issues.  There I found the answer I was looking for, quoting Bodil Wicknertz: “When using a browser like Chrome will automatically zoom in for you, based on your view port when you are on a high definition screen. In Qlik Sense Desktop 1.0 you see it in 100%, no zoom, which gives the behavior you are seeing.” Qlik is looking for a solution of this problem at the moment. Hope they will fix it soon.

The workaround at the moment is:

  • Start Qlik Sense Desktop
  • Open your browser, e.g. Firefox or Chrome
  • Enter the following URL: http://localhost:4848

This opens Qlik Sense in browser, where it works properly. After all the troubles I finally could have a look at the tool. My first impression of the tool is great. Looks quite intuitive. Now I can start building up my first dashboard. čśÇ
